Book Review – “Murder Road” by Simone St. James

A young couple find themselves haunted by a string of gruesome murders committed along an old deserted road in this terrifying new novel.

July 1995. April and Eddie have taken a wrong turn. They’re looking for the small resort town where they plan to spend their honeymoon. When they spot what appears to be a lone hitchhiker along the deserted road, they stop to help. But not long after the hitchhiker gets into their car, they see the blood seeping from her jacket and a truck barreling down Atticus Line after them.

My Thoughts…

What to Expect:
🚗 Paranormal
🚗 Small Town
🚗 Newlyweds
🚗 The 90’s
🚗 Short chapters

🫶 What worked for me…
I absolutely loved this book! There’s a newlywed couple on a honeymoon from hell, some lovable and unlovable characters, creepy paranormal events, and it all takes place in a small town. What more can you ask for? Oh, did I mention this takes place in the ’90s? I was also very impressed with the sensitive but true representation of a war veteran with PTSD.

🤷‍♀️ What didn’t work for me…
There was an inconsistency in the middle of the book that I couldn’t figure out. I won’t mention what it is to avoid spoilers. It was minor, but I had to reread the chapter to try to figure it out, and ultimately I couldn’t.

🤔 Would I recommend it…
I do recommend reading this book, especially to readers who enjoy ghost stories.

⚠️ Trigger warnings…
Blood, murder, gun violence, mental illness, domestic abuse, violence, cancer, drug abuse, drug use.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
