Book Review – “Layla” by Colleen Hoover

When Leeds meets Layla, the connection is instant, and a bond is formed. However, a fling from Leeds’ past becomes jealous and attacks the new couple in their home. After the attack, Layla suffers from memory loss, PTSD, debilitating panic attacks, and generally seems like a different person than the one Leeds fell in love with. Hoping to rekindle their relationship, Leeds brings her back to where it all started, a Bed & Breakfast. But what happens when another guest at the B&B sparks Leeds’ interest and brings back happy memories that he once shared with Layla? Leeds has to make a very difficult decision. Who do you think he will choose?

“Layla” by Colleen Hoover is a dark paranormal romance thriller published in 2020, and it’s a little bit different from what I would normally read. The perspective was written from the point of view of a man, Leeds, which was fascinating and turned the heat up from a typical Colleen Hoover romance.

I thoroughly enjoyed the paranormal element of this book, and I wouldn’t have read it without it. However, the whole premise of this book is outright strange. I’m not going to go into detail as to why I felt this way about the plot, but you’ll just have to trust me on this one. Or, better yet, read the novel for yourself, and you’ll know exactly what I’m referring to.

Regardless of the strange plot, the ending of this novel came together nicely. The intense love and romance were just what I needed to bring some sweet tears to my eyes.

Overall, thriller lovers, if you’re in the mood for a paranormal thriller with medium romance undertones, buckle up for a great ride.
