Book Review – “The Axe Remembers (A Redwood Ripper Story)” by Marcus Hawke

The Redwood Ripper is an urban legend spirit that awakens to avenge those who take more than they give.  But is the Redwood Ripper truly just a legend, or more?

I just loved this short slasher novella! “The Axe Remembers: A Redwood Ripper Story” by Marcus Hawke just released on July 2nd, and if you’re a horror slasher fan, you’re going to want to put this on your radar.

Set in Canada on a wood mill site, this story, albeit short, is atmospheric and includes an environmental factor, which is a nice plot bonus. I had quite a few moments, especially in the beginning, where I was shocked by the ick factor. Hawke has a way of detailing the feelings of being harmed and maimed that placed me right into the Redwood Ripper’s victims’ heads. It was incredibly immersive and gross. Let’s just say, I won’t be cutting down redwoods anytime soon.

Thank you to the author, Marcus Hawke, for the gifted eARC copy for review purposes. All opinions expressed here are mine alone.
