“Brain Damage” by Freida McFadden follows dermatologist Charly as she recovers in a rehab facility after being shot in the head. The question is: Who shot Charly, and why?
This psychological thriller felt more like a case study of brain trauma than anything else, but I ate it up! We learn about what Charly experiences and her recovery journey. There are also some fascinating side characters that I grew to love. Speaking of love, did I mention that there is indeed a love story involved? Well, there certainly is! All the while this is occurring, we learn about Charly’s past, before the shooting, to draw conclusions about the would-be murderer.
Although slightly predictable regarding who shot Charly, overall, it was a decent story. I would recommend this to anyone interested in getting a bird’s-eye view of brain trauma and to anyone newly experiencing the thriller genre.
