In “The Tickle Monster” by David Washburn, we follow Teddy, a young boy who just wants to grow up to be a man like his father. When an innocent nightly tickle game and his father’s warning never to venture into the woods collide, darkness ensues.
At 87 pages, this short novella hits all the right horror points, and the scene sets the stage for the beginning of a colonial New England autumn. It is the perfect read for the ‘ber months, in my opinion.
Washburn took me into the woods with Teddy and brought absolute terror back home. It was atmospheric and descriptive, which made it even more eerie and terrifying. The ending blew me away and was not what I expected.
This is a short novella that horror readers and anyone looking to start the spooky season off right needs to read.
