“The Family Game” by Catherine Steadman follows Harriet Reed and her newfound love for the heir of a powerful family, Edward Holbeck. Once they decide to take their relationship to the next level, Harriet finds herself under scrutiny from her soon-to-be family. It seems as if her new family is playing games with her, and when she discovers that Edward’s father has a secret as dark as her own, she realizes these are not harmless, childish games to be played.
This book grabbed me and hooked me in! It is so interesting, propulsive, and will make you question every intention of the Holbeck family. You can’t help but root for Harriet Reed and hope that all will work out in the end for her and Edward.
This isn’t at all like any other book I’ve read before, and the games that Edward’s father is playing with Harriet make you guess what he has in store for her next. It’s incredibly nerve-wracking, hair-raising, and pulse-pounding. This book also makes you wonder what you would do if you were in Harriet’s position. Would you stay, or would you go? Is a relationship really worth all the games? What will happen if you do leave? These are all questions you will be asking yourself while trying to figure out what the main goal of this story is.
I highly recommend this intense and propulsive thriller novel to all thriller lovers, especially to those who enjoy a lot of action in their novels. This book is set during the winter and can be enjoyed all year long, but if you’re looking for your next thriller to read in the upcoming winter season, this is it!
