“The Boyfriend” by Freida McFadden follows Sydney Shaw, a single woman in NYC, as she navigates the world of online dating sites. When she thinks she has found the perfect boyfriend, a doctor at a local hospital, a string of murders occurs in NYC, and the main suspect is a man who dates the victims before murdering them. Is Sydney safe? She should be; she found the perfect boyfriend, but does she really know who she is dating?
Freida McFadden does it again with this entertaining and fast-paced popcorn thriller! I enjoyed every bit of this, and as a woman who has been happily married before online dating was even a thing, I was highly entertained. I find online dating very fascinating, and I always tend to eat up every one of my friends’ good or not-so-good dating stories. So, you can imagine how entertaining this book was for me. Add in a few murder mysteries and McFadden’s twisty narrative, and it’s the perfect thriller.
As I was nearing the end of this story, I had to roll my eyes many times, as I was 100% certain I knew who the killer was. It seemed so obvious, but boy, was I completely wrong, and what a surprise it was.
If you are a Freida McFadden fan as much as I am, you need to dive into her newest novel, “The Boyfriend,” immediately. This one would also be a great introductory Freida McFadden novel for those who have not read her work.
