“DIY Exorcism” follows Dante, a local pastor whose son’s behavior ultimately leads to Dante handcuffing him to the basement furnace. Dante is convinced that there is a demon lurking in his son, and he takes to the internet to search for how to perform an exorcism, all while trying to protect his reputation within his community as a pastor and father.
This was wild, and if I had a few words to describe this story, they would be horrifying and anxiety-inducing. As a parent of a pre-teen, it was relatable to the noise and outbursts that children at that age seem to have. The whole time I was reading this novel, I had fears of Dante getting caught with his child handcuffed to the furnace in his basement. He has prior community obligations during the time Dante is trying to perform an exorcism on his child. A lot of people are going to know he is missing. The whole thing is just nerve-wracking. The anxiety I felt was immense, with questions going through my head, like: How is this going to play out? Will anyone believe him? Is he going to get caught? Will he be able to help his son? What will his son’s mother think? Is this really happening? Not only was the anxiety at play here, but also the added element of the scary and impossible things Dante was experiencing with his sweet baby boy.
The ending was incredible! It was not at all what I was expecting, and let me tell you, by then I had a million scenarios running through my head. I was left with a big twist, and it was worth the ride.
This seemingly short, terrifying paranormal possession horror story is worth reading. Trust me.
