“Too Late” by Colleen Hoover follows Sloan, a college student, and her relationship with Asa Jackson, a notorious drug trafficker. Asa is a dangerous criminal who has vowed to leave the industry in the past but keeps growing his empire. He also has a dangerous obsession with Sloan. Sloan wants out of the relationship and the dangerous lifestyle but is dependent on Asa for financial stability, and Asa knows it. Then one day, undercover DEA agent Carter comes into the picture to work on busting Asa’s drug ring. Carter didn’t plan for his feelings to grow toward Sloan. While trying to maintain his cover, he becomes close to Sloan and wants to save her from her unstable home. But is it too late?
This romantic suspense thriller is amazing! I gobbled it right up! Colleen Hoover has a talent for writing characters that you can truly connect with and also despise. I had so many feelings while reading this novel, from sadness to happiness, love, hatred, and despair. It truly tugged at my heartstrings the most. The heartache from Sloan and Asa’s relationship was so heartbreaking; it’s difficult to think that a woman could be so trapped and helpless. Not only were those feelings felt, but the suspense was intense. I was rooting for Carter from start to finish.
If you’re looking for your next thriller with a hero, this is it. Please check trigger warnings if necessary; it is graphic in nature.
