Book Review – “One by One” by Ruth Ware

“One by One” by Ruth Ware follows Erin, a housekeeper for a French alpine chalet, and Liz, a shareholder in a new tech company, Snoop. When Snoop’s employees stay at the chalet, they expect a week of skiing and relaxation during their work trip, but the Alps have different plans: an avalanche. However, when a few of the Snoop employees end up dead in the chalet, the remaining employees and staff of the chalet begin pointing their fingers at potential suspects.

If I had two words to explain how this novel felt, they would be “slow” and “repetitive.” The skiing and the isolated, trapped atmosphere were nice touches, but overall, I thought the majority of the story dragged on for far too long.

Lastly, I enjoyed the friendship between Erin and Danny, the cook, the most. The other characters were unlikable, which made it difficult to draw my own conclusions.

You might enjoy this story if you like a long, drawn-out mystery with winter vibes. However, I honestly wish I had skipped this one.
