Book Review – “The Fiction Writer” by Jillian Cantor

“The Fiction Writer” by Jillian Cantor follows Olivia, a once-rising literary star, as she takes a ghostwriting job for “Ash” Asherwood, the sexiest man alive. The problem is that she doesn’t get a clear picture of what to write. Ash claims he found the diaries of his grandmother, which portray the story of Daphne du Maurier’s “Rebecca.” He asserts that Maurier must have stolen the story from his grandmother. However, Ash seems to give Olivia the runaround, and she doesn’t truly understand his motives for ghostwriting the story. As his relationship with Olivia crosses the line of professionalism, Ash appears to be hiding more than just his grandmother’s diary entries, especially when the circumstances surrounding his deceased wife’s actual death come into play.

I truly enjoyed this unique plotline. I love when I find a new thriller that doesn’t come close to other stories I’ve read before. This was just that! With one POV and sprinkled with a mysterious story manuscript, it truly piqued my interest. Let’s also talk about the short chapters! I truly believe it’s easier and faster to read a novel that includes short chapters.

If you’re looking for a quick popcorn thriller to devour, then this is it! It’s highly entertaining and has a great, twisty ending.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5/5
