Book Review – “Gone Tonight” by Sarah Pekkanen

“Gone Tonight” by Sarah Pekkanen follows the mother-daughter duo, Ruth and Catherine, as they navigate life together against the world. However, Catherine doesn’t know the true reason why Ruth, a pregnant teen, ran away all those years ago.

Let’s start with the positive aspects of this novel that I enjoyed: short chapters, alternating POVs, a strong mother-daughter bond, a daughter with a bright and hopeful future, and some suspense.

Now, unfortunately, this novel could have been better for me if the situations had been more thought out. Without giving away any details, they seemed very unbelievable. Even the moods and intentions of the characters seemed unbelievable and inhuman.
Secondly, the pacing of this novel was slow, and usually, it wouldn’t bother me if I enjoyed the journey. However, the journey was slightly lackluster, and I only endured it to find out the conclusion of the story.

Lastly, the ending was different, and I enjoyed that aspect because it wasn’t what I was expecting. I’m always up for a unique twist.

Overall, some might enjoy this story if they can look past the unbelievable situations presented in it.

⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
