“‘My mum used to believe in cause in effect,’ you say as the car starts. ‘All action in the universe creates a reaction that will return to you. That’s why you are where you are now.'”
“You Killed Me First” by John Marrs starts out intensely, with a woman trapped in the middle of a bonfire. Why is she there, and what transpired? Rewind 11 months before the bonfire, and the reader is introduced to three neighborhood women who all harbor deep secrets.
I enjoyed the journey into the secrets and the whole connection these three women have to each other in the past. Although I have to admit, I am currently in a reading slump and had a hard time truly connecting to this story emotionally. To be honest, the beginning of the book is slightly confusing with the notes from the ghosts haunting their current possessed inhabitants. But overall, it comes together, and you eventually catch on to what is going on.
Overall, it wasn’t a mind-blowing novel, but it was entertaining enough.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5
