“These Summer Storms” by Sarah MacLean follows Alice Storm as she returns to the Storm family’s island in New England for her father’s funeral or celebration of life. The Storm family isn’t a typical family, though; they are ultra-wealthy, and her father left each Storm a task to complete over a week to earn a share of the family inheritance.
Now, you’re probably thinking from that description that it would be easy-peasy for the Storm family, but that’s far from the truth. The father was relentless and overly controlling of his children’s lives. The tasks were absolutely ridiculous, and some were just flat-out horrible. This story is filled with intense family drama, and I loved every second of it.
As a matter of fact, I was so invested in this story that it took me only two days to finish. I loved the crazy family dynamics, the summer-in-New-England setting, and the romance. Oh yes, there’s a romantic side story going on, and I totally ate it up. It’s been years since I’ve sidestepped my favorite genre, thrillers, to take on contemporary fiction, and I don’t regret reading this for one second.
This is a great summer read that I’d recommend to any reader who enjoys the drama that comes with rich people.
