New Review – “Lock Every Door” by Riley Sager

“Lock Every Door” by Riley Sager follows Jules Larsen as she takes a new job as an apartment sitter for the mysterious and high-profile building, the Bartholomew, in Manhattan. It seems like an easy job, being paid to live in a luxurious apartment. But there’s a catch: there are a lot of strange rules to follow and many strange happenings, especially when Jules realizes that prior apartment sitters have seemingly gone missing. When another current apartment sitter, who is a friend of Jules, goes missing, Jules steps into action, trying to find out what happened to her friend.

What’s not to love about this story? I certainly enjoyed the creepy atmosphere, the fascinating residents of the Bartholomew, and Jules’s determination to never give up. This book somewhat reminded me of “The Paris Apartment” by Lucy Foley. I honestly thought this was better, to be honest. We have short, snappy chapters, a really cool POV with then-and-now timelines, and I just had a lingering feeling of dread the whole time. It’s exactly what I was looking for.

I definitely recommend this creepy book. All you need is a nice fire to curl up next to, with a cup of something hot. Tea or coffee would work just fine. Happy reading!
